Great Expectations

"It's easy to expect that we will find ourselves in a good place surrounded by good people who like and affirm us.  But life has a way of breaking those expectations.  What then?" --Joe Stowell

Your Passionate Purpose

"The function of man is to live, not to exist.  I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time." --Jack London

Alan Cohen says, "Most people spend a great deal of time and energy protecting themselves from the things they fear.  As a result, they don't really live; they merely survive."  Can you identify with that statement?  I can.  That's why I grew up to be a Perfectionist.

The Truth About You

In his book "Wisdom of the Heart" Alan Cohen begins his chapter entitled "The Truth About You" with this prayer:  "Dear God, please help me to recognize the truth about myself..."  Before I could finish what was printed on the page my mind filled in the rest of the sentence:  "....just how awful I really am."  But that's not what he wrote.  His sentence ends:  "no matter how beautiful it is."

Sing Your Song

Alan Cohen writes, "Your soul has a song....When you're in touch with your joy and act upon it, your heart feels full and your life is rewarding.  When you're disconnected from your passion, you feel empty, your life is frustrating, and you wonder what you're doing here."

He's referring to what you do--whether it concerns your occupation or advocation.  I've certainly experienced this.  There are certain activities that bring me great joy.  Being a Mom to these three little boys was one of them....

Substitutes

Substitute:  a person or thing acting or serving in place of another

There are lots of substitutes for the things we eat these days, like for sugar.....
I, personally, cannot abide the artificial stuff.  I'll take real sugar, real butter, real milk, real beef, real anything when it comes to food.
