God Himself

Wexford Carol

"The true light, which enlightens everyone,
was coming into the world."
--  John 1:9

I recently found this poem in the daily devotional, Streams in the Desert, edited by Mrs. Cowman. . . .

My goal is God Himself, not joy, nor peace,
Nor even blessing, but Himself, my God;
'Tis His to lead me there, not mine, but His
'At any cost, dear Lord, by any road!'

I have distilled this poem down to. . . .

Thy Will Be Done

This is so I can invoke it quickly--as soon as I'm aware I am in rebellion.  It reminds me that what I am currently put out about will lead me to God Himself, if I am willing for His Will to be done.  It is only by being in God's presence through this humbled state that I can receive his power and strength to deal with the situation in a way that will lead to peace and joy.  This was reinforced for me recently when I had an encounter with in which I did not do this.  The situation felt hopeless because I'd reacted before I had a chance to think.

This is too often the case for many of us, isn't it.  It's an indication that we have unresolved "issues" with the person or the type of situation we find ourselves in.  But praise God!  All is not lost.  We need only to humble ourselves and seek Him, and He will lead us on the path of righteousness where peace and joy can be found once again!

Father, thank you for bringing Light into the world through your Son, Jesus, so that I can once again walk in the path You have prepared for me.  May my hidden "issues" come to the surface so that I might give them to You and leave them with You, once and for all.
