This time of year is filled with excitement and wonder as many children look forward to Santa's coming. It has been a part of our culture for generations now. I remember how torn I was when my children were little and how easy it was to give in to the Santa culture they were exposed to....and in the process the excitement and wonder of the true meaning of Christmas was missed.
The dictionary definition of wonder is "a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable." That is what the shepherds on the hill outside Bethlehem that night must have experienced as the sky filled with angelic voices....
Jesus, the Christ, was born into the world to save mankind from his everlasting separation from God, the Father, our Creator. The excitement we should feel is akin to thinking we are an orphan and finding out our parents are alive and about to come get us. The wonder of it all is that we will finally see where we came from and to whom we belong.
Until we heed Jesus' call and respond, we are just wandering through our time here on Earth.
Father, keep me from taking your love and grace in my life for granted. May I always experience excitement and wonder at Who You Are and what I am as Your child.

Take action: Be like the shepherds in awe of the message the angels brought and spread the Good News this Christmas season and all year long....
