Perspective from the Clouds

"Do clouds of trouble fill your skies today? --Dennis FisherOur Daily Bread
Dennis Fisher writes....when the producer of a 1927 silent film about American aviators during WWI asked the director why he had suspended shooting for several days the director replied, "All we have is blue sky.  The conflict in the air will not be as visible without clouds.  Clouds bring perspective."

I remember as a child lying in the grass watching the clouds go by.  We children often looked for shapes of animals and other objects.  I'd also lie on the floor of my bedroom and "see" myself walking on the ceiling, stepping over the now high threshold of the doorway.  Or looking at the room through the reflection of the mirror on my dresser.  All these ways of seeing gave me a different perspective of my world.  Perhaps it is the reason I am always looking for the meaning behind people's actions or why I enjoy solving mysteries.  I firmly believe there's more to life than we see in the normal course of our day.

Jesus often spoke in what seemed to be riddles to his followers.  He did so because he didn't want the casual followers to gain the wisdom His words held.  These gems were meant for true followers. (See Matthew 13:11-17)  There was a time that I did not understand the Bible.  It seemed like a foreign language to me.  Once my heart was open to receiving its truth, however, everything made perfect sense to me!  Jesus said we only need faith as little as a mustard seed--that is enough for Him to work with.  From that point on He will grow us up into seeing life from His perspective..... and nothing will ever be the same.  As Job concludes in chapter 42:5, "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You."  After which God "blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning." (v. 12)

Father, we need to be able to stand back and see our world from Your perspective in order to see clearly.  Sometimes we need the dark clouds in order to highlight all that is good.  Thank you for showing me what is true and right.
