God is My All in All

At the end of this post is the song that came to my mind this morning while I was journaling about how cheerful I felt.  I've written often about our need to rely on God, to turn to Him, to let Him live in us freely, to base our self-worth on Him alone.  I've also written about asking for happiness rather than for specific things since we don't always know what will bring us happiness.

This morning, once again, I was brought, in a roundabout way, back to the basics.  The only way to be truly happy, and therefore cheerful, is not through circumstances, but rather through a state of being.  And the only state of being that can truly provide peace is to be one with God because He is our All in All.  Jesus, as the Lamb of God, provided the way back to God for us so that He can be our All in All.

It's sorta like allowing your camera time to focus until you can see the image clearly through your viewfinder as you zoom in on the object of your photo.  With my camera if I zoom in too quickly I will have to wait for the camera's eye to catch up and register what it is seeing before the picture becomes clear.  Perhaps this is what is happening to me when I lose my cheerfulness.  I need to slow down--be patient--so my heart can focus on God, my all in all.  I'm usually too eager to zoom ahead, thinking I can avert trouble that way.  In the mean time, I lose my focus as my internal guidance system (God) is trying to get my attention to direct me.  It's as though my zoom lens has a mind of its own, disconnected from the camera to which it's attached.

Father, when I feel eager, or antsy, make me aware that I need to slow down and be intentional about placing my whole being in Your care, for You are my All in All.
