As an example Cohen tells the story of a fellow in Hawaii who received a call from a woman in Utah asking him why he called her. He insisted he didn't call her. He had some friends in Utah, but their numbers weren't even close to hers to explain a misdial. She was persistent in trying to find out why he had called her and wasn't going to let him off the phone until they got to the bottom of it. To make a long story very short, they stayed on the phone for 2 hours talking and were married a few months later. The interesting part is that the fellow unraveled the mystery of how his number ended up on her phone. I'll condense it here: The fellow's friend in Utah was looking to purchase a cell phone and had taken it and two other phones home overnight. The friend called him to test it out and the fellow called him back. The friend returned two of the phones. The gal went to the same store and because she didn't want to wait for one to be ordered, ended up getting the returned phone the fellow had called. When she saw the number on her Caller ID she tried to call the operator to find out where the area code was located and ended up reaching the fellow in Hawaii.
This reminds me of what Jesus had to say about prayer in Luke 11:9: "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." Cohen asserts that the two parties involved were "ripe, willing, and ready to meet a new mate." That is why once the events were set in motion (the Caller ID) they stayed on the phone. The door was opened to their meeting each other when the time was right. Only God could have arranged such a meeting at the right time. They may not have uttered a particular prayer about a mate, but God knows the desires of our hearts. Matthew 21:22 "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." I believe this is so because when you are allowing the Holy Spirit free reign in your life His desires will be your desires and you CAN be certain He will answer those prayers. He even answers prayers/desires too deep to utter. Romans 8:26: "...we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words."
I've had this experience of opening my mouth to pray at a prayer meeting and not having any words come out of my mouth because I have no idea as to what to say, but in the silence I felt the Spirit. God has your number! He knows what you need even when you don't. Place your life in his Hands and he shall give you the desires of your heart.
Father, I sit here in silence not knowing what to say, but trusting you are hearing the prayer of my heart.
